‘Kashmir’s Internet Siege’ is a 6 chapter report by Jammu and Kashmir Coalition of Civil Society about the impact of internet and telecommunications blackouts in Kashmir since Aug 5, 2019. This report looks at internet disruptions through the lens of international human right norms; right to livelihood, health, and education, access to justice, freedom of press, and right to social life. It is also a testament to the resilience and resourcefulness of the people of Jammu & Kashmir, who refuse to be silenced.

Book Cover Explorations
Various explorations for the report title represented by a slow internet speed icon and the pixelated glitch which concluded the report content in a very symbolic and simple way. Are we designing the cover of the report or poster for a protest? This question led us to referencing revolutionary posters from Russian constructivist movement of the early 20th century.

Option 1
Trying experimental typography and dynamic layouts the idea is to visualise how the report would look in a really slow internet connection, the type and the graphs would not load properly and get pixelated.

Option 2
The report will mostly be viewed on the website and a pdf then why not make the book itself on a vertical layout? The design process always prompt us to ask various questions like this or a reason to try making something new from the known medium itself.

Iterating copy in a responsive website simultaneously the print spreads get checked to make sure everything looks just the right size, color and with proper hierarchy of information.
