Dr. Surjit S. Bhalla is an economist and author of multiple books. He has taught, as well worked at several well-known institutions and continues to play a notable role in shaping India’s economic policies. Being such a prominent member in his field he needed a personal website which would act as an archive for all his work over the past 45 years as well as give a platform to post updates about his latest books, talks and other publications.
The personal and the professional Looking beyond him as an economist, the site would represent him as a bold, impactful individual who is unapologetic about stating his views, which often run against the conventional grain.
The range of subjects covered in his work was also kept in mind while designing the architecture: his work ranges beyond economics and politics, into cricket and cinema on which he comments just as ardently.
Design
The visual design was aimed at bringing out his outspoken but respected voice as a commentator. His active and often combative Twitter handle featured prominently on the homepage along with the quote of the month giving visitors get a small glimpse into him as person.
Simple and clear navigation makes for ease of access. Dividing his broad range of work into section specific content made his work more discoverable, especially for his more offbeat writings on cricket and cinema. Once inside the reader can quickly navigate between related articles/papers giving them a more rounded view of the topic.
